Resources for Human Rights Defenders

Through the international human rights system, those experiencing - or fighting against - injustice, inequality, or suppression of fundamental freedoms can achieve greater governmental respect for individuals' and communities' rights.

IJRC's goal is to eliminate the real and perceived barriers that keep advocates and victims from effectively engaging with the international human rights framework in order to obtain redress, accountability and improved human rights practices.

The international human rights framework can seem complicated, difficult to navigate, or removed from local concerns. However, human rights law can be a powerful advocacy tool, and the regional and United Nations bodies that monitor and enforce human rights protections provide a forum to: let victims' stories be heard, document and substantiate claims of human rights abuses, engage in direct dialogue with the government, increase pressure for reform, and obtain redress.

This online resource hub is designed to allow visitors to educate themselves on the international human rights system, research the law and human rights conditions, interact with one another, request assistance, and keeps tabs on the news.

Our capacity-building and technical support services are also available to advocates engaged in advocacy or litigation of human rights issues, where international protections may be stronger than those available at the local level.
